Horses have highly tuned senses that can detect the most subtle changes including those changes in our breathing and heart rate. They have innate mirroring, and communication processes which they use for survival, and this means that they naturally sense our feelings and emotions. Horses can mirror these changes, which helps us to understand how we feel about different situations and people, and how other’s see and experience us in different situations and contexts.
Equine Assisted Therapy can provide a safe space for us to experience revelations about ourselves and our lives.Equine Assisted Therapy sessions are conducted in the natural environment all year round. At Peaceful Paddocks Wellness Services, we work in a collaborative way, and so I will work with you and you will be invited to attend a 45-minute consultation with me during which we will discuss your needs, goals, and our program.
During your first equine assisted therapy session, you will learn about MacGyver and how to be safe around him. This will set you up to feel comfortable, and confident to enjoy a positive environment, where you can focus on building skills that will help you to reach your personal goals. The focus of your first equine therapy sessions will be on building a trusting and honest relationship with MacGyver and me. I will work with you to develop session plans that are based entirely on what you want to achieve.
Horses rely on non-verbal communication, they have no preconceived ideas or feelings about you, they have no agenda, and they will always meet you exactly where you are at, and so you will be empowered to drive the direction of your sessions every time. MacGyver and I will gently guide you through these sessions, and during this time you will be able to observe MacGyver’s behaviour, you will learn how to communicate naturally with him, and in doing so you will learn new things about yourself and about others.
